FloShield Benefits

Benefits

With smart design comes benefits.

By actively keeping laparoscopes from getting dirty, the FloShield system provides hospitals with both clinical and economic benefits.

FloShield Scopes

Eliminate the Need for Other Laparoscopic Products

Reduced Products

Hospitals stock multiple products to heat laparoscopes during surgery and clean the tip of the lens to remove tissue or debris after it gets dirty. The all-inclusive FloShield system actively prevents lenses from getting dirty, eliminating the need for these other products.

The FloShield system eliminates the need for other products that:

  • require the removal of a scope to be cleaned with an anti-fog solution,
  • heat the laparoscope,
  • heat the insufflation tubing,
  • clean the inside of a trocar.

No Need to Heat the Scope

No need to heat the scope

Unlike other products on the market, the all-inclusive FloShield system provides instant defogging and a barrier from condensation so there's no need to ever heat the scope during a procedure.

The system provides:

  • a simplified set-up requiring no additional products or time,
  • a reduction in constant interruptions to clean the scope,
  • a means of eliminating hot water and scope heating devices from your operating room.

Reduced Scope Removals

Reduced Scope Removals

By actively preventing scopes from getting dirty, FloShield Air reduces, and FloShield Plus virtually eliminates the need to remove a laparoscope during surgery.

In one clinical assessment1 of 30 cases, the clinicians dramatically reduced the need to interrupt surgery to clean the laparoscope by over 99% when using FloShield Plus. The data showed that the clinicians went from 6 removals an hour to .005 removals an hour when using FloShield Plus.

Potential Reduction in Overall O.R. Costs

Reduced Operting Room Costs

A cost impact analysis was performed to determine the potential savings that could be attributed to FloShield for one year utilizing the following data points.

Clinical studies1,2 of U.S. hospitals have demonstrated that the average cost per minute of operating room time was $62.

In 2009, a non-commissioned study3 of 66 gastric bypass procedures performed by a single surgeon, with 33 consecutive cases without FloShield and 33 consecutive cases utilizing FloShield:

  • Surgical team remained consistent and the workflow was unchanged
  • Overall surgical time from incision to closure was decreased from 101 to 91 minutes. This represented a 10 minute time savings attributed directly to FloShield.
OR Cost / Minute Time Savings Cost / Case Est. Annual Cases Annual Savings
$62 10 Minutes $620 240 $148,800

Potential Impact on O.R. Risks

Potential for Increased Safety

By virtually eliminating the need to remove a scope during procedures, the FloShield system may reduce risk factors associated with laparoscopy.

  • Fewer instrument exchanges minimize the risk of trocar slippage or displacement.
  • Keeping laparoscopes in an abdomen during procedures reduces the potential risk of O.R. fires due to video equipment resting on the patient's drapes1.
  • Eliminating the need for hot water baths for laparoscopes reduces the risk of scalding and/or burns.
